Silver Train Stops Lost in the Fog's Streak in Sprint
The biggest favorite on the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships day program faltered, Lost in the Fog going down at 3-5 odds and finishing off the board in the $1.06 million TVG Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I).
The winner was Silver Train, whose trainer Rick Dutrow will saddle Saint Liam in the Breeders' Cup Classic – Powered by Dodge (gr. I). It was the first loss for Lost in the Fog after 10 straight wins.

Shirocco scores in Turf dominated by Europeans
When John Gosden spotted the strapping Shirocco (Ger) walking into the quarantine barn on a rainy Tuesday at Belmont Park, the English-based trainer confidently remarked, “There’s the [Breeders’ Cup] Turf [G1] winner, he loves the soft ground.”
Gosden proved prophetic as the tank-like Shirocco tracked rabbit Shake the Bank early, moved to the lead as the field entered the final turn, and then held off all challenges to lead home a field that saw the top four places go to European-based horses.

Intercontinental matches sister’s feat with Filly and Mare Turf triumph
Four years after talented Banks Hill (GB) ran away to a 5¼-length win in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1) and the Eclipse Award as three-year-old champion filly, her full sister Intercontinental (GB) carried Juddmonte Farms’s silks to a decisive win in this year’s $1-million edition of the race on Saturday at Belmont Park.
Intercontinental took command early and held off a late charge from defending Filly and Mare Turf champion Ouija Board to win the 1¼-mile race by 1¼ lengths.

Stevie Wonderboy a big hit
Merv Griffin has another hit on his hands. He just hopes he can remain at the top of the charts for another six months.
Griffin, who had a No. 1 song in the 1950's, created two of the top game shows in television history, and won 15 Emmy Awards, is the owner of Stevie Wonderboy, who stormed down the center of Belmont Park's main track Saturday and ran down Henny Hughes to take the $1,590,000 Breeders' Cup Juvenile by 1 1/4 lengths.

Folklore gives Prado 1st Cup win, Lukas his 18th
With an assist from trainer D. Wayne Lukas and a razor-sharp mount in Folklore, jockey Edgar Prado finally ended his Breeders' Cup drought Saturday at Belmont Park.
Confirming that her performance in the Grade 1 Matron last month was not a fluke, Folklore put away an early challenge from Knights Templar, opened up a large advantage in midstretch, and had more than enough to hold off Wild Fit to win the $1,060,000 Juvenile Fillies by 1 1/4 lengths.

Earning his first stakes victory in his second North American start, Aragorn (Ire) survived a steward’s inquiry and a thrilling stretch battle against Eastern Sand to win the $150,000 Oak Tree Derby (G2) by a nose on Saturday at Santa Anita Park.

Rafael Bejarano can do little wrong at Keeneland these days. Riding Sweet Talker, the longest shot in a field of seven 3-year-old fillies, Bejarano put a perfectly timed ride to maximum use when Sweet Talker lasted by the barest of margins Saturday in winning the $500,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup.
